NFSI IS DEVELOPING AlertNet™ Canada's First Advanced Warning System for Gun Violence.

AlertNet™ Reacts the moment violence threatens a neighborhood, church, school, or public space, sending real-time warnings directly to your phone, giving families, students, and communities the essential time to reach safety, shelter in place, to make it home again.

About Us

Because knowing sooner can change everything. Every tragedy has a moment before it becomes irreversible. A person turns down a hallway. A parent drives toward a danger zone. A student walks into the wrong place at the wrong time. A family waits for a call that may never come. Too often, people are not lost because they made the wrong choice. They are lost because they were never given the chance to make one. Across North America, violence has reached a point where seconds matter. In the United States alone, more than 20,000 people were victims of homicide in 2024, and more than 44,000 people died from firearms overall. These numbers are not just statistics. They are sons, daughters, parents, friends, teachers, workers, and bystanders whose lives changed instantly. AlertNet was created for the critical seconds before impact. AlertNet is an advanced app-based warning system designed to notify people when a confirmed weapon threat is reported in their area. Its purpose is simple: give people the time they would otherwise never have.

Time to stop. Time to shelter. Time to leave. Time to warn someone they love. Time to survive.

AlertNet is not about panic. It is about awareness. It is not about fear. It is about giving people information when information matters most. When a confirmed weapon threat is active nearby, AlertNet helps deliver urgent, location-relevant warnings so users can make faster, safer decisions. In a crisis, even thirty seconds can change the outcome. Thirty seconds can mean a locked door, a different route, a shelter decision, or one final message that says: “I’m safe.”

Key Features and Benefits

  • Instant, Location-Specific Alerts: Alerts are delivered in milliseconds to users in the affected zone, offering real-time situational awareness when every second counts.

  • Amber-Style Notifications: The app pushes high-visibility alerts similar to an Amber Alert, designed to prompt swift community attention and safety action.

  • Seamless Integration: Encrypted API access from regional, provincial, and national law-enforcement agencies and direct breach advisories via the SSC arms recovery unit systems,

  • Privacy-First Design: No personal or household data is shared, only anonymized breach information with area-based context.

  • Safety Guidance Included: Each alert provides actionable safety steps to reduce panic and empower smarter community response.

  • Enhanced Theft Recovery: When firearms are stolen, AlertNet helps recover them faster by engaging both law enforcement and nearby citizens.

  • School and Community Protection: Participating schools, daycares, and community centers can receive advance warnings and initiate lockdowns or other safety protocols without delay.

This is AlertNet™

NFSI AlertNet™ is a free mobile app currently in development, designed to instantly warn individuals and communities about nearby active weapons incidents. Acting as a real-time early-warning network for weapon-related threats, AlertNet is being developed by the NFSI - National Firearm Safety Initiative.

The goal of NFSI AlertNet is to connect directly, through secure API integration, with local, provincial, and national law-enforcement agencies so that verified weapon-incident advisories can be broadcast to individuals who may be in the direct path of immediate danger anywhere in Canada.

Through law-enforcement integration, AlertNet would allow police agencies to issue verified active or static weapons-related advisories, including stolen-firearm bulletins, active threat warnings, missing weapons, and area-specific safety notifications. This would transform AlertNet into a unified and trusted public-safety information hub, where verified alerts can flow in real time from both community and law-enforcement sources.

However, a system of this scale cannot be built by vision alone. It can only be accomplished with the help of individuals, organizations, public-safety advocates, community leaders, and supporters who are willing to contribute to its development, rollout, and public adoption. Every contribution helps move AlertNet closer to becoming a life-saving tool available to the people and communities that need it most.

More details on enrollment, rollout timelines, eligibility, and contribution opportunities will be announced soon.

Stay informed. Stay connected. Stay safe with NFSI AlertNet™.
